list of ways to prepare your home for fall

Monday, September 22nd is the first day of fall, and with fall comes lower temperatures, colorful leaves, and pumpkins and apples galore! Though it may be a little early to start preparing for Halloween, there are plenty of things you can pull out now that will get you in the mood for fall.

enjoying the fall

  • Clothing – Shorts and t-shirts are not cutting it anymore. With the cooler temperatures, you should start going through your closets and boxes to pull out this year’s warmer clothing.
  • Blankets – Place in convenient locations for chilly evenings and mornings.
  • Fall Decor – Bring out the pumpkin, fall leaf, and apple-themed decor that you may have in the attic or basement.
  • Fall Candles – It is not fall around here until we’ve bought and lit the Harvest candle by Yankee Candle.  Really we tend to burn it year round – but it is perfect for fall!
  • Mums – Mums are a bright splash of color in fall gardens. They look perfect in planters on the porch or lining the walkway to your house.
  • Cornstalks – Find a place around your doorway to tie up some cornstalks either from your garden or from your local pumpkin patch.
  • Rakes – Make sure your rakes are in good order. Put them in a convenient spot for easy access.
  • Recipes – Locate and arrange your recipes for comfort foods such as soups and breads and for your family’s favorite hot beverages such as spiced teas and cocoa.

I love the Harvest scent too. This year was my first time to try two other scents that work well together. Yankee makes one called Autumn Leaves and another called Farmer’s Market. I think all three of these fragrances would compliment each other, if you wanted to use them in different rooms. You’re right though – we have to get the house smelling good before it’s officially Fall!

I have a perfect recipe for making your home smell like there’s an apple pie baking in the oven! It is so easy, but you’ll have to come on over to my blog to check it out! ;)

Are you back in Autumnal ME? Was NY amazing?

NIce list. The temps here in Los Angeles are set to be 90 later in the week, but high only 80 today. I already had to look for windbreakers and bought a few light weight sweat jackets since my son takes bus before 7 AM. We really do not have reasons here and until Halloween it is hot with the Santa Ana winds coming soon. Once that is over I can use the oven again.
