list of values i want to impart to my children

Every family has their own set of values. Some things that are important to one family may not be quite as important to another family. Nothing demonstrates the differences that can arise in people’s ideologies like an election. We see people lining up on one side or the other, agreeing with one candidate’s philosophy and rejecting the other candidate’s positions. It is up to us to discover what we truly believe and guide our children in that belief. Here is a list of values that I want my children to understand and live.

  1. Education is vital!
  2. Be polite.
  3. Be honest in all things.
  4. Treat each person with dignity and respect.
  5. Never stop asking questions.
  6. Understanding that there are consequences for your actions.
  7. Believe in yourself – you are a force to be reckoned with!
  8. Compassion for those less fortunate.
  9. Always search for truth and meaning.
  10. Family should always stick together.

    This comment, I initially rejected, but I am adding it here because I have realized that it is pretty funny. Good one, Brethart77:

    I give my children a hypothetical dollar value based upon how much they contribute to the family as a whole (as if I were hiring them to perform a job duty). If someone asks I will say, “This is my daughter Sarah and she is worth about a buck twenty five an hour” – now if you really want to get somethig done, my son Gene, Jr is worth about six dollars fifteen cents.

    Respect. Respect is a word I use all the time. Maybe cause I can’t get none! LOL

    I think it is important to teach kids to respect their elders and their peers. This is more than just being polite. It means that while they may not share the same thoughts or beliefs, they will understand that someone else’s thoughts and ideas are as important to that other person as theirs are to them. For example some like Palin, and others like……. Fey!!!
