list of christmas traditions in my home

Though my children are still pretty young, there are quite a few practices that have come to be accepted tradition in our home during the Christmas season. They are activities, foods, or things that would definitely be missed if we couldn’t have/do them sometime during December. It is fun to take the things that I loved from when I was a child and turn them into things that my children love. And it gives me a thrill to stumble upon something new that works for my whole family that I can include in future Christmas celebrations. Here are some of our favorite traditions.

  1. Decorating our home for Christmas on the day after Thanksgiving. We love pulling out all of our Santas (and by now, we have a lot).
  2. Visiting Santa & Mrs. Claus in Bath’s old Town Hall on the Saturday evening after Thanksgiving.
  3. Reading our Advent Calendar’s activity of the day each morning at breakfast.
  4. Listening to Amy Grant and Vince Gill (how ironic that now they are married) Christmas CDs at teatime.
  5. Riding in a horse-drawn wagon around Freeport.
  6. Wearing our pjs when we go out to see the Christmas lights. We always bring along our hot chocolate and mugs.
  7. Making latkes on the first night of Hanukkah (okay, not a Christmas celebration, but since it is in December, I think it should count).
  8. Marveling at the presents placed under the tree on Christmas Eve.
  9. Lighting the Santa candle and ringing our Santa bell to help him find his way to our home.
  10. A big Christmas Eve dinner and leftovers all day on Christmas, except for breakfast when we eat Breading Pudding.
