list of creative ways to carve a pumpkin this year

On Halloween eve, my family excitedly gathers at the kitchen table armed with newspaper , drawing paper, pencils and their beloved garden grown pumpkin. We scoop out the insides, clean, count and roast pumpkin seeds and then get to work on the carving. Our children sketch out ideas for eyes, noses and mouths and every year we end up with pumpkins that look pretty much the same as last year’s. In an effort NOT to make yet another cat-face pumpkin, I have been on a quest to find inspiration for some new creative ideas.  Here are some of the results.

  • Fanged Pumpkins
    • I don’t know why, but I think kids in those plastic fangs are so cute.  And pumpkins in them are even cuter!
  • Use Cookie Cutters
    • Grab your favorite metal cookie cutters and a rubber mallet and you are all set.
    • I think I might make a Maine themed pumpkin this year with my Maine cookie cutter set.
  • Use a Stencil
    • No creative thought needed, just follow the patterns.  There are a plethora to choose from on the internet.
  • Glitter Pumpkins
    • It has always been my opinion that everything looks better in glitter.
  • Decoupage Leaf Pumpkin
    • A pretty way to display those gorgeous Fall leaves.
  • Turn your pumpkin sideways
    • . . .and use the stem as a nose.
  • Pumpkin Messages
    • Use an apple corer to punch out letters on your pumpkins and send a Halloween message.
  • Creative Carving Designs
    • Grab a carving tool and transform your pumpkin into something beautiful.
  • Melted Crayon Pumpkins
    • Hate to carve pumpkins? Try this beautiful pumpkin decorating idea.
  • Spider -Covered Pumpkin
    • This just makes me shiver thinking about it!
