Though “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” first made an appearance on TV in 1966, it still holds every bit of the magic it first had. Many of us grew up watching this classic Halloween episode, knowing that it was officially Halloween when it aired on TV for the season. My family has watched “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” once a week all throughout October ever since my first child was born 7 years ago. She used to especially love the “scary” parts when Snoopy glides on his belly through the French countryside and again when Snoopy pretended he was the Great Pumpkin rising out of the pumpkin patch at the end. Here are some of the lines that we love to quote while we watch the show.
- Aww, you didn’t tell me you were going to kill it! – Linus
- I got a rock. – Charlie Brown
- Never jump into a pile of leaves with a wet sucker. – Linus
- Welcome to the 20th century! – Sally
- If you try to hold my hand, I’ll slug you! – Sally
- I’m doomed! – Linus
- My lips touched dog lips! Bleck! Ick! Poison dog lips! – Lucy
- Peculiar thing about this document. . .it was never notarized. – Lucy
- A person should always choose a costume that is in direct contrast to her personality – Lucy
- I’ve learned there are 3 things never to discuss with people: religion, politics, and the Great Pumpkin. – Linus

I love charlie brown too! Can't wait for "It's Christmas Charlie Brown."
One of my personal favorites, is when Linus says (speaking of the Great Pumpkin) "...More people believe in Santa Claus than in you, but let's face it; Santa Claus has had more publicity. But being number two, perhaps you try harder."
