list of meanings for the word "labor"

It is Labor Day and I started thinking of all the unpleasant ways I could be spending this day. As you spend this day at home or participating in final summertime activities, be grateful if you are lucky enough not to be celebrating Labor Day in one of these ways:

  1. Physical or mental exertion, especially when difficult or exhausting; work.
  2. Something produced by work.
  3. A specific task.
  4. A particular form of work or method of working: manual labor.
  5. The process by which childbirth occurs, beginning with contractions of the uterus and ending with the expulsion of the fetus or infant and the placenta.
