list of non-traditional halloween treat ideas

When I was a kid, my favorite thing to get on Halloween night was a mini Snickers bar. Second to that, any kind of chocolate. I remember spreading out my treat bag all over my bed so I could “organize” my loot. I would usually find a couple of apples and a couple of homemade treats such as Rice Krispy Treats or popcorn balls wrapped up in cling wrap mixed in with the more tooth-decay producing treats. Today, people do not give food that is not individually wrapped from a store shelf, but if you are opposed to giving candy, there are still plenty of options.

  • pencils
  • mini Play Doh
  • little plastic spiders or insects
  • mini bubbles
  • bookmarks
  • stickers or tattoos
  • theme bandages
  • “jewels”
  • halloween magnets (you can even make these yourself)
  • fun shoelaces

What are some of your unique ideas for Halloween treats?

  • My son's favorite trick or treat was remarkable a travel toothbrush. He thought it was great and I finally got him to WANT to brush his teeth at the end of Halloween.

  • We always add either something reflective to put on their costume or glow sticks and toss in a toothbruth!!  This year, we are making Halloween Poppers filled with pencils, glowies, toothbrushes and whatever else will fit from the discount store!

  • My wife and I have enjoyed giving out the glow bracelets and necklaces. The kids love it and we feel good that they might just be a little more safe running around the streets in the dark. Another fun item is the flashing ear-rings or flashing vampire teeth!
These ideas will make kids' dentists happy too.

  • Hi! I'm just commenting in response to a comment you made on my blog. I was totally intimidated by making bread until about a year ago. I found this post:

And I've been making our bread ever since. I use the smallest proportions she lists and it's super yummy! It's turned out almost every time. When it gets really cold outside I put a little extra yeast in, I found it works better that way for some reason.

    Good luck!

  • i gave out halloween bouncy balls last year, i think if i get my act together i'll order glow-bracelets this year. i really like oriental trading for this stuff.

  • cute ideas... but I can hardly think about them on account of the fact that I'm still hyper-ventilating over "100 days until Christmas!" WOW! :)

  • My kids often come home with those plastic glow in the dark necklaces. They are always a huge hit.
