You’ve heard of the sock monster that lives in the dryer and gobbles up just ONE sock from each pair. I’ve heard many moms say they don’t know what to do with those solo socks. Some keep a basket on the dryer to deposit solo socks into in case they find the other one. Some safety pin each pair of socks before they go into the washer. Don’t give up! Here are few places to check before you decide to toss those lonely socks.
- Under the washing machine or dryer
- Behind the hamper
- Under dressers
- Under rugs
- In the corners of fitted sheets
- Under the couch
- In their sock drawers (you’d be surprised how they blend into the other socks)
- Behind the washer and dryer
- Stuck to any kind of fleece or fleece lining
- In your child’s toy box (socks make excellent puppets, you know)
Where do you keep your family’s solo socks?

LOL... wherever I do end up finding them I can tell you that they are not:
a) with their mate
b) where they belong
c) where you would think to look
or
d)any place remotely logical!
I did find one dirty navy blue kneesock (my daughter is the Biggest Slob Around) in the console of my car with an old juice box she stashed there. I was fishing around for a Chapstick when I found it!
I tend to find solo socks in the diaper bag and in the car. My kids have a habit of taking their shoes and socks off in the car and I don't usually make them put them back on one we reach home.
