list of reasons to exercise before your kids wake up

I spent 20 minutes on my elliptical machine this morning (it happens to be a snow day so all 3 children are at home). Here are just the top 10 things I had to deal with in those 20 minutes:

  • Kids ask for a snack
  • Kids ask for a drink
  • Kids fighting over crayons
  • Baby (who is actually 2 1/2 years old) wants me to de-puffify her sleeves
  • My son wants me to “read” his coloring page
  • My oldest wants me to find her white tights
  • Kids demand a snack AND a drink
  • Baby begins to cry because her sleeves are still too puffy and now I need to “Clean” her eyes (i.e. wipe her tears)
  • Phone rang twice
  • Kids fighting over book

Mommy only lost control once (a fit of which I am not proud). Is it too much to ask for 20 minutes of uninterrupted exercise? I wasn’t asking for 20-minutes to read a novel or eat a cupcake. Guess next time, I’ll set my alarm for 6:30 a.m.

What struggles do you face when you exercise?
