list of reasons why today’s moms experience mommy guilt

It is an epidemic of epic proportions! How do we make the decisions that are right for our families and then stand behind them after we’ve made them without the added pressure of Mommy Guilt?

  1. TV – This is my number 1! I feel guilty every time I turn the TV on for the kids. They’re not supposed to watch any under the age of 2 and they’re not supposed to watch more than an hour a day. Ugh!
  2. C leaning – A stay-at-home mom should have lots of time to keep her house neat and tidy, right? Ugh! What about the little ones that tear behind me tossing off their dirty clothes to make more laundry and dropping snacks on the floor to cover up that last inch of visible carpet?!
  3. Working – Working moms feel guilty about leaving their children, stay-at-home moms feel guilty about not contributing to the financial stability of the family.
  4. Cooking – Does macaroni and cheese count? I’ve heard the stories about how my grandma use to cook something for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for her family of 6. No dried cereal, no frozen entrees.
  5. Children – Did I play with them enough today? Did I teach them anything new? Were they polite? When we went to the store, was their behavior reflective of my parenting abilities?

Come on Mamas. You know that guilty feeling. What are your sources of gut-wrenching guilt?

  • when I run out of things to feel guilty about (which is never) I could feel guilty about not growing my own food, sewing clothes for my family, canning jam for the winter, or not giving my child enough siblings to play with. That'll keep me busy for a while.

  • I found you! I loved this entry on guilt. I was giggling while reading it, agreeing with your every word! Just today at lunch I felt GUILTY for making pb&j for lunch! I hope to see you soon :-)
