list of sleep strategies employed by my friends

We recently have created a MOMS Club playgroup where we discuss “Hot Topics” for moms. Our first month, we discussed sleep aids for children who were not napping, having trouble going to sleep, waking up too early, or waking in the middle of the night. These are just a few:

  1. Use a nightlight (closet light, hall light, plug-in)
  2. Wait it out (10 to 30-minute rule)
  3. Adjust naps to closer to lunch time
  4. Play soft music
  5. Stay in the room, but ease further and further towards the door each night
  6. Establish a bedtime routine
  7. Institute a “No Play” policy
  8. Introduce a lovey object (blankie, soft animal)
  9. Use a spray bottle filled with a mix of Febreze and water to spray away the monsters
  10. Fill their heads with “Good Things” to think about just before you leave the room
