I was browsing through some of my favorite blogs today, thinking about the “stuff” in my basement that is in need of a new home. I came across a post at Organized with Style that made me sit up and take note. She suggests an organized swap with friends in order to get rid of the things that are no longer in use. Why not give them new life in a new home? One person’s junk is another’s treasure, right? Taking it one step further, she suggests planning a swap around a theme. Everyone brings a related item they are willing to part with or share. You could plan a swap monthly, once every season, or even yearly. Here are a few themes that would make for a fun exchange.

1. Women’s clothing/fashion show
2. Kids’ items (toys, clothing)
3. Home decor
4. Kitchen items/small appliances
5. Holiday decor
6. Movies/music/books
7. Sporting equipment (skis, skates, sneakers, racquets, etc.)
8. Plants/seedlings
9. Recipes
10. Perfume or unused cosmetics
