I was browsing through some of my favorite blogs today, thinking about the “stuff” in my basement that is in need of a new home. I came across a post at Organized with Style that made me sit up and take note. She suggests an organized swap with friends in order to get rid of the things that are no longer in use. Why not give them new life in a new home? One person’s junk is another’s treasure, right? Taking it one step further, she suggests planning a swap around a theme. Everyone brings a related item they are willing to part with or share. You could plan a swap monthly, once every season, or even yearly. Here are a few themes that would make for a fun exchange.
- Women’s clothing/fashion show
- Kids’ items (toys, clothing)
- Home decor
- Kitchen items/small appliances
- Holiday decor
- Movies/music/books
- Sporting equipment (skis, skates, sneakers, racquets, etc.)
- Plants/seedlings
- Recipes
- Perfume or unused cosmetics
What are your ideas for a swap?

NO one mentioned Baseball Cards and Video Games...computer hardware and software...Sporting Goods and Watercraft - just to name a few.
Baby/children's clothes and maternity clothes. My mom's group does this regularly especially when we started having our seconds/thirds.
That sounds like fun. I've been cleaning out my closet & giving stuff to my friends.
Great idea, thanks for sharing
I love this idea Jen!
My friends and I are having a clothes exchange party next week, and we are including jewelery and handbags and scarves - can't wait!
Jewelry and accessories is a good one when your friends come in a variety of sizes!
I also love a re-gifting party. I have one every year AFTER christmas/hanukkah.
