list of things to do post-christmas

My husband likes to keep the Christmas decorations up through New Year’s and every year, I think I will try to make it until then. However, the decorations that looked so pretty just a few days ago look terribly cluttered the day after Christmas. None if means the same to me the day after Christmas. And so, once again, I will not be able to hold myself back this year from taking it down and clearing it away. I took a nap on Christmas day, and when I woke up, it was as if some sort of organizing switch was turned on inside. I began to scurry around, picking up things, sorting through things, and writing a few immediate tasks down on my To Do List. Here are a few of those tasks.

  1. Put away Christmas decorations.
  2. Organize gift wrap station.
  3. Remove all items from kitchen counters and really clean (both counters and appliances).
  4. Sort through desk/table upstairs in my room (you know, the one where are all stray papers migrate to when you don’t know where else to put them).
  5. Go through children’s toys and books (again) and get rid of broken and unloved toys. Arrange new toys in an organized manner.
  6. Empty out my “junk” drawer and replace necessary items neatly.
  7. Organize storage room in the basement. Separate items for a yard sale in the spring. Make a run to Goodwill.
  8. File all important documents that have been laying on the filing cabinet awaiting filing.
  9. Begin to prepare documents for business and personal taxes.
  10. Create a list of Resolutions for 2009 and a plan to accomplish them.

What are your resolutions for 2009?

I am glad to see that I am not the only one who has these impulses so quickly. We had company in town – otherwise, I may have started decluttering the decorations right away. Thanks for the list!

Emptying the junk drawer – that’s a huge one for me! It’s so full my husband has started migrating junk to other drawers…

I usually wait until after New Year to take down my Christmas decorations, but like you, I don’t know if I’ll be able to ‘hold out’ that long this year…heh, heh! Great list, I need to make one myself (and stick to it! *grin!*)
