Moms (and children) get antsy when cooped up in the winter months, too! Unless you are fortunate enough to live in a warm climate, January is a tough month for most of us. We’ve already experienced a lot of cold and maybe a lot of snow, and we are facing another 2, possibly 3, more months of winter! Here is a list of ideas to help you get through it:
- Visit your local library or community bookstore and stock up on a couple of good novels to warm you up for the weeks ahead. You can usually reserve the books you want ahead of time and just pick them up at your convenience, but getting out and browsing may just be half the fun!
- If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! Get into your snow pants and wriggle on your snow boots to go for a walk down the snowy lane or go sledding with the kids.
- Your summer vacation may seem like a lifetime away, but summer will be here before you know it. Use this winter downtime to begin developing the plans for your summer trip! A dose of summer dreaming might be just what the doctor ordered.
- Procrastination is pointless in the winter! Why put off during this slower-paced season when you have the time for right now. Need to organize the basement? Got a pile of photos to put in your albums? Plan to paint your bathroom a nice shade of yellow? No time like the present to tackle big projects!
- Get Out of the House! If you are at home with children during the day, find a place that allows your children to burn off a little energy: mall, indoor play structure, friend’s house. If you have some free time in the evenings, get out for some decaf coffee (with one of your novels) or see a chick-flick at the theater with a friend.
