the month ahead: march 2014

As each good planner has a place for a monthly calendar, weekly, and often daily planning pages, ListPlanIt has all the pages you need to create either a digital planner or a paper planner.  For a hardcopy version, all you need is a binder (I prefer Mead’s Notebinder or Staples’ arc system for their flexibility), a hole punch, and pages from ListPlanIt.com.  You can create and customize your own planner for your own uses.  The Month Ahead offers holidays*, special events*, and reminders to help you get and stay ahead of your business, home, and/or family life.

* holidays and special events are mainly those of the U.S.  If you are from a different part of the world, feel free to note your holiday or special event below in the comments.

Holidays

  • 3/4 (Tuesday) – Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras is the culmination of a 2-week party. Tomorrow begins a day of fasting for many people.
  • 3/17 ( Monday) – St. Patrick’s Day
Don’t forget to wear green today!

Special Events

  • 3/2 (Sunday) – Dr. Seuss’ Birthday | Read Across America Day
Grab your little ones and pull them onto your lap for some read aloud time.  Encourage everyone in your family to grab a spot on the sofa, grab their favorite book(s), and grab some quality reading/bonding time.
  • 3/7 (Friday at sundown) to 3/8 (Saturday at sundown) – National Day of Unplugging
Pledge 24 hours to be media-free. Read, craft, bowl, connect, or do whatever possibilities are available when you unplug from your screen.
  • 3/9 (Saturday) – Daylight Savings Begins Tonight
When you go to bed tonight, don’t forget to spring forward with your clocks and set them forward one hour.
  • 3/20 (Thursday) – 1st Day of Spring
Celebrate the first official day of spring with a picnic or barbecue outdoors.  If you haven’t already, consider swapping out your family’s winter clothing for spring clothing.

Reminders

  • Make plans for Spring Break
If you are taking a trip, complete your itinerary and finalize your reservations.  If you are staying around home, consider yourself a Hometown Tourist (find everything you need to plan your travel and even a Hometown Tourist worksheet in Travel Planning)
  • Time for Spring Cleaning
Print or write your Spring Cleaning List (members will find a complete Spring Cleaning List in Home Management).
  • Prepare your Gardens and Yard
Don’t just stop with the inside of your home.  Make a plan to spruce up your gardens and yard.  Planting seeds indoors or outdoors after the last frost is an inexpensive way to add color to a yard.  Growing herbs and veggies are a great way to save some money at the grocery store. (members to ListPlanIt.com will find garden planning pages in Home Management)
  • Easter is on the way (April 20)
Start shopping for your spring wardrobe. Begin your holiday meal planning (members will find event and holiday meal planning in Holidays & Occasions).
